A cancer diagnosis can be one of the scariest things a pet owner has to endure. It is our mission to provide your pet with very comprehensive care but also very compassionate care. There are many treatment options that can be used either in conjunction with traditional treatments, or in place of traditional treatments when necessary.
Many pet owners ask, "How much time can I get with my pet after they've been diagnosed with cancer?" This can be a difficult question to answer. Just as every pet is different in breed, age and personality, so each pet is different in their response to therapy. Additionally, certain cancers are more responsive to treatments like chemotherapy and surgical intervention than others. Other factors like your pet's overall health and age impact the prognosis. Instead, we focus on quality instead of quantity, and we will work our hardest to ensure your pet has as much happy, healthy time with you as possible.
We offer a number of therapies to assist in cancer management:
Diet recommendations: diets that are high in quality proteins, free of grains and low in carbohydrates are highly recommended for cancer patients. It is not recommended that dogs and cat with immune system problems consume a raw food diet; instead, we have healthful alternative recommendations including quality commercial pet foods and home cooking recipes.
Supplements to maintain healthy immune function: we offer herbal and other natural products that can improve immune system function and decrease cancer cell production. We only carry supplies from reputable companies with a demonstrated record of quality. Remember, when researching on the internet: if a product sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Dr. Sivula is happy to investigate supplements that you may be interested in.
Acupuncture and chiropractic therapy: not only are these therapies relaxing and enjoyable, but they can improve overall health and stimulate appetite, among other things.
Massage therapy and energy medicine: these therapies can increase circulation, flush toxins from the body, and improve mood. Not only do these treatments feel great, but Dr. Sivula can advise you on how to do them at home, affording your pet some great one-on-one timed with you (and that has tremendous healing power).
A caring and helpful doctor and staff: compassion can seem in short supply sometimes, and we make tremendous effort to provide you with the professional support and personal caring that is so important during this battle. We love our pets, and we understand your dedication to your pet's care. We are honored to be a part of it.
